COMPANY STATEMENT NOT FOR PUBLICATION, DISTRIBUTION OR RELEASE, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, IN OR INTO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, CANADA, JAPAN OR AUSTRALIA OPTIMUM COAL SIGNS MARKETING AGREEMENT WITH MERCURIA ENERGY GROUP Enhances Optimum Coal's export marketing Optimum Coal Holdings Limited ("Optimum Coal"), the black-owned and controlled South African coal mining group, announced today that it has entered into a ten year marketing agreement with the Mercuria Energy Group ("Mercuria"). Mercuria is one of the world's five largest independent commodity traders. Mercuria will act as the marketing agent for Optimum in respect of all uncommitted export quality coal produced by the Optimum Group and the agreement may be extended for an additional period of five years. A commission varying between 1.5-2.5% depending on agency or proprietary credit risk taken by Mercuria will be paid by Optimum Coal. On 1st February 2010, Optimum Coal announced its intention to float on the JSE Limited during the first half of this year. Optimum Coal's vision is to become the country's benchmark South African-owned and controlled coal mining and exploration group.
